Opening this before your first submission makes the attempt practice only.

Worked solution

  1. The ratio of red pigment to white pigment is given as 3:7. This means for every 3 parts of red pigment, there are 7 parts of white pigment.
  2. We are told that 420 millilitres of white pigment are used. This corresponds to the 7 parts in the ratio.
  3. To find the value of one part, divide the amount of white pigment by 7: 420 mL ÷ 7 = 60 mL per part.
  4. Since red pigment is 3 parts, multiply the value of one part by 3: 60 mL × 3 = 180 mL.
  5. Therefore, 180 millilitres of red pigment are needed.

Reference answer: 180 mL
